Here are our favorite books/authors (in no particular order) that we have been loving. Maybe you can experience some happy moments out of these books too if you haven’t heard of them before. Enjoy reading!
Christine Tangvald’s Hip Hug Horray Why Alivia loves it: She loves to point to the fun illustrations and count the children/people giving hugs.
Why I love it: This is such a cute book about all the different kind of hugs that you can give/receive. In the end it says that the “God hugs us every day in every way!” It is a great way to introduce God’s love for people to a little mind.
John Schindel's "Busy" animal series Why Alivia loves it: Simply put, she loves animals…
Why I love it: There are a ton of different “busy” animal books. I think they are great because they are easy and fast books to read with simple rhymes for children to comprehend. Each book captures pictures of real animals in action and the rhymes correlate with the picture taken.
Il Sung Na’s A Book of Sleep, Snow Rabbit, Spring Rabbit: A Book of Changing Seasons, (We are looking forward to reading his other books which we need to reserve at the library ASAP) Why Alivia loves them: Who couldn’t love these books!! She loves animals and the illustrations are so amazing. The stories are cute too! she calls this one the owl book!
Why I love them: Oh. My. These are my seriously favorite children’s books!! They are amazing. The stories are simple yet memorable. It’s those illustrations that are absolutely stunning and simply wonderful. This book caught my eye at the library amidst 100’s of other titles, and we renewed it two times (the limit) until we had to bring it back. I think this one will go in our personal library. Take a look at these pictures and see for yourself…
Yep, I love. I would love to get prints of these and put them on her wall as decorations. Here is his website for more information: http://www.ilsungna.com/home.htm
4 Crayola Board Books (found at the Target $1 bin)
Why Alivia loves them: She loves these books because, of course, they have cute pictures of animals on them! We read them multiple times a day
Why I love them: They are darling. They are a great teaching tool as each book has to do with counting (Two Hippos up on Sticks), colors (Purple Jellies Fall Asleep), opposites (Sleep All Night, Play All Day), and animal noises. I love the simplicity, cute rhymes, and fun illustrations. They are Crayola after all!
Alice Provensen’s Count on Me mini books Why Alivia loves them: They are perfect Alivia size, 10 mini books that she can hold in her tiny, cute hands. She often packs these little guys in her purse or mini stroller and takes off to a corner to read on her own. They also come with us on many a car ride!
Why I love them: They are Alivia size. They are helping her with her number skills, although she doesn’t have her counting down yet, I know that she is hearing/reading about her numbers with this little darling set. Each book (1-10) talks about a number and a theme.
Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle’s Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? Why Alivia loves it: Again, the animals. I think she is attracted to any book that has animals in it. And, I like to read this one like a song too and she loves it. When were done, she signs for “more”! Ah, her love for books and songs mixed into one!
Why I love it: She is so cute when she looks at all the animals and says the animal noises. Another great teaching tool for colors and animals (although she really does have her animals down) I am going to try to throw in some activities to do with this book. Here is a link for some ideas: http://www.dltkteach.com/books/brownbear/index.htm
Baby Einstein books Why Alivia loves them: She loves to point to all the objects in these books. (These books are not as interesting as they used to be for Alivia, but she still likes them. She used to love them and they were are go-to books when all else failed.)
Why I love them: Well, they just work for babies/toddlers, the colors, the pictures, the ideas of them just work. She has loved these books since she was a tiny baby. We brought these books with us on our Thanksgiving trip to keep her occupied on the airplane rides.
Dr. Seuss’s Mr. Brown can Moo! Can you? Why Alivia loves it: She loves to repeat the sounds after we say them, especially “moo, moo”, “knock, Knock”, and “boom, boom”! She now calls thunder “boom, boom” because of this book.
Why I love it: hmmmm, who doesn’t love a good Dr. Seuss book!! I think I have this one memorized now.
Toddler Bible
Why Alivia loves it: The toddler Bible we have has flip openings and she loves to open the flaps to see what’s underneath. She like the illustrations and I hope she likes hearing the Bible stories too.
Why I love it: That’s an easy one! I like to read her these Bible stories to start learning about God. Even if she can’t comprehend a whole lot, I love that she is hearing/listening to the stories. Just that she is listening to me and taking in bits and pieces is exciting. I am happy to be teaching her about God’s love for his people and for her.
Rod Campbell's Dear Zoo
Why Alivia loves it: Alivia loves it for the lift-the-flip pages and the animals.
Why I love it: I love how cute this book is. It's just a fun book about zoo animals. Simple yet adorable.
Laura Numeroffs’ books Why Alivia loves them: They make her smile and she loves to point at the objects. Why I love them: I used to read these books as a kiddo, so they remind me of my childhood and they are so darn cute. Here is a website for activities to do alongside the book. We are going to try a few soon. http://www.dltk-teach.com/books/mousecookie.html
