Playful Pioneers!!

Wow! I’m so impressed with this curriculum we chose. The Playful Pioneers by the Peaceful Press is a project and literature based curriculum and it’s so, so right for our family. We adore the literature selections and have fun searching the library for more related titles to the week's focus. Nolan has surprised me by really wanting to dig into learning about the Native American lifestyle, so I think I will keep that interest and grab books and extra projects as long as he shows interest. We are also loving the projects and pioneer inspired cooking ideas. The spine of the curriculum are Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books and projects and living books intertwine with a main point of the chapters read each week to add more depth and learning. My kids are responding really well to the daily Playful Pioneers assignments. They are absolutely loving the first book we are reading, Farmer Boy, and often ask for more than one chapter a day. We are listening to the audio because I read the picture books, so it allows for some variety. I’m so glad I stumbled  upon the Peaceful Press because it’s made our transition to homeschooling really lovely. We are struggling some with math and language arts but my kids are all smiles when I say it’s Playful Pioneers time! ❤️

Alivia's completed horse assignment!!

Nolan was having a hard time with drawing a horse so I told him I would print a picture and he could write out the horse assignment. Compromise win!!

I decided that I wanted to partake in some of the fun and did the horse assignment as well. It was so relaxing and really enjoyable!!

Alivia chose to tie dye her shirt. It was beautiful but we left it in the sun too long which faded it-- this was our first time and definitely a learning process. We now know not to leave it in the sun.

The runners were dyed with avocado and are my favorite. So simple and beautiful! Very fun process to watch them go from white to this beautiful color with God's resources.

Some of our dyed goodies!!

We made homemade popcorn just as the Wilder family did only we used coconut oil instead of butter.

We made apple pie to go with our popcorn since the Wilder family had apples and popcorn together
(and because it worked with the Peaceful Preschool Letter A week)!!

Native American books for week 1!!

We decided to take a deeper look at Native American lifestyle in our neck of the woods and the kids loved that they could recognize some of the places and people!!

Native American book for week 1 (Also, interlibrary loans are pretty neat. Our library district didn't have this book but I put it on hold with the interlibrary system and it came all the way from a college in Oklahoma. It's really a cool way to get books without having to pay for them if your local library doesn't have what you're looking for.)
